The primary function of connective tissue is to hold and support other tissues and organs in the body. This type of tissue plays a crucial role in providing structural integrity and stability to various body parts. It connects different tissues together, ensuring that they function cohesively. Connective tissues can take various forms, including loose connective tissue, dense connective tissue, adipose tissue, blood, and cartilage, each serving specific roles in support and movement.

While protecting body organs is an important function of some types of connective tissue, such as adipose tissue providing cushioning, this is often considered a secondary function rather than the primary purpose. Facilitating chemical reactions typically aligns more with the functions of epithelial or glandular tissues, which are involved in processes like secretion and absorption. Similarly, although some types of connective tissue, like blood, do indeed transport nutrients, the primary role of connective tissue overall is more focused on support and connection rather than nutrient transport.
